Greening Hulhumalé one tree at a time through community planting events.

Tree Planting Drives are among HCA's flagship environmental initiatives, reflecting the organisation's commitment to building a greener and more sustainable Hulhumalé. Held in collaboration with residents, volunteers, and partner organisations, these drives bring the community together around a shared responsibility for the environment. Participants of all ages take part in planting trees across public spaces and shared areas, contributing directly to the natural beauty and ecological health of the neighbourhood.
The value of these drives extends well beyond the trees themselves. By inviting families, youth, and school students to plant and care for greenery, HCA helps instil a sense of ownership and environmental awareness in the community from an early age. Children learn the importance of nurturing nature, while adults are reminded of the role each individual plays in preserving the surroundings for future generations. In this way, every tree planted becomes a lasting symbol of collective effort and shared purpose.
Tree Planting Drives also support the broader goal of climate resilience and environmental sustainability that is so important to island communities like the Maldives. Greener public spaces offer shade, improve air quality, and create more pleasant and liveable surroundings for everyone. Through this initiative, HCA continues to encourage civic responsibility and remind residents that caring for the environment is a duty shared by the whole community, one tree and one small action at a time.
