To mark this year's World Environment Day, the Hulhumalé Community Alliance (HCA) held a national-level palm tree planting activity in Hulhumalé Phase II on Saturday, 6 June 2026. Registered internationally as an official World Environment Day event, the drive ran from 16:00 to 17:30 on a vacant plot in Phase II.

Details of the activity had been shared in advance with the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Energy, and HCA noted that it received the full cooperation and support of the government throughout.

Alongside the Environment Ministry, the activity drew participation from the Ministry of Education and the committee of the "5 Million Trees" project, an initiative led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Five Hulhumalé schools took part: Rehendhi School, Ghaazee School, Huravee School, Salahuddin School and Shaheed Ali School.

Students and members of the Girl Guide Association and the Maldives Scout Association also joined, alongside strong backing from state-owned and private institutions, including HDC, WAMCO, Agro Net, Ooredoo Maldives, H78, Bonaqua, Taskin and the Maldives Police Service.

Ooredoo Maldives was the activity's principal supporter, with H78 also providing significant assistance. HDC and the 5 Million Trees project committee served as event partners, Bonaqua was the drinks partner, and SSTV was the media partner.

According to HCA, more than 1,000 people from schools and various institutions took part in the planting. The main aim of the activity was to raise awareness around protecting the environment and to help secure a green environment for future generations.
